Keenoy Pup News November

Dear Families,
It was so nice seeing everyone at conferences. I truly enjoyed sharing your child’s progress
with you. Thank you so much for all
your support this year and making your child’s learning such an important
priority. Please do not hesitate to
contact me through email or phone with any questions, comments, or
concerns. Thanks for all that you do!
Pup of the Week:
Tristan Williams
Hello, my name is Tristan. I like the FEC (Family Entertainment Center) in Georgia. I also like the Eagle Tower and Infinity Museum. My hobbies and interests include loving Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and my family. I really enjoy that my family likes to play together.

Math
I’m not even exaggerating when I share that I’ve been blown
away with the fantastic math conversations that we have each day. I wish that you could catch a glimpse of the
student teaching that is taking place with our fraction unit. Their great thinking has allowed me to take
amazing ideas to the next level.
Next week students will:
*Use benchmarks to estimate sums and differences of
fractions and mixed numbers.
*Rename mixed numbers and fractions greater than 1 by
composing and breaking apart wholes.
*Exploring tools and strategies for adding and subtracting
fractions and mixed numbers.
Writing
Students completed their pre-assessment for informational
writing today. This assessment is used
to determine what skillset students have with this style of writing before we
jump into our lessons. Instruction in
this genre of writing (informational) will begin after we return from
Thanksgiving break.
Reading
Students seem to love the suspenseful book, Zach’s Lie. We are nearing the climax of our story arc in
the book. I think that most students
would prefer me to read for an hour vs. just 20 min. They are doing a great job of practicing the
comprehension skills that I am modeling during this read aloud.
Students will be taking an assessment late next week over
the comprehension skills inferring, prediction, and context clues. I am confident that they will be able to
apply these strategies practiced in class with Fiction and Non-Fiction passages.
Social Studies
Students are learning about Pre-Revolutionary War events in
Chapter 7. The major events that we will
be focusing on are: The French and Indian War, The Stamp Act, The Townshend
Acts, The Boston Tea Party, and Bunker Hill.
For a day or two next week, I will enjoy playing the “bad
guy” role of King George the III. I will
require my colonists to pay taxes for the use of certain classroom goods😊
Science
We are currently focusing much of our attention on Social
Studies during this time. We will pick
back up with science after Thanksgiving Break.
Word Study
Students were asked to study their ten words throughout the
week. Thank you for taking the time to
quiz them from their list. They took a
test today and these will be graded over the weekend.
