October 31st through November 3rd
Keenoy Pup News November
3, 2017
Dear Families,
We have completed the first trimester of our school
year. Parent-teacher conferences begin
on Monday. I’ve included another reminder
of our conference time in your child’s work/study habits. If for some reason
you have a conflict with your conference date, please contact me right away so
that we can reschedule. It is also very helpful if everyone is on time to their
conference so that I may stay on time as well.
Friday Folders
Since next week is conference week, Friday Folders and a
newsletter will not be sent home. Friday folders will resume on Friday,
November 17. Folders will not be sent home the week of Thanksgiving.
Pup of the Week: Alex
Monier
My name is Alex and I love to play various styles of video
games and read. I have two pets who I care a lot about. I have one brother and
no sisters. Two pets, a brother, and a wonderful family are enough for me.
Keenoy Pup Celebration
As I am sure that you have heard, I enjoy giving out Keenoy
Pup cash for students who are following Paxton Keeley and class expectations
throughout the day. After a week or two,
each table counts their cash and the table that has earned the most cash
receives a special treat. All of the
cash earned from each table also counts towards classroom goals that we created
together. KEENOY PUPS reached our second
goal of 500 Pup Cash this week and voted for a classroom celebration.
On Monday, we will have a "Cozy Lunch and a Movie"
celebration during recess and lunch.
Students can bring a pillow, blanket, or other cozy item to school for
this celebration. This is a great group of kids and this time together will be
a lot of fun. Thank you for all your
continued support and I really look forward to visiting with you at
conferences.
Field Trip
On Thursday, November 9, 5th graders at Paxton Keeley will
be attending their first field trip. We will be leaving Paxton promptly at 8:30
am that day to head to Battle High School to watch the musical, Annie. Students
that are tardy to school that day may miss the field trip. It is imperative
that students be at school by 8:20 am on that day to hear last minute
instructions and to make sure they are ready to leave the building! We should
be back at Paxton in time for their first recess (11:50).
Holiday Performance
& Open House
Please join us on Friday, December 15 for our annual holiday
event. Your child will be singing in the gym with the other 5th graders, and
then afterwards is an open house in our classroom. The schedule times for those
performances are listed below.

Math
I was so impressed with our overall classroom Unit 2
assessment scores. Over half of our
class earned an E (90% or above) on this assessment. I look forward to sharing these at
conferences.
This week, students:
applied their understanding of fractions as division to
report remainders as fractions.
determined what to do with the remainders (ignore, round up,
or report as a fraction), depending on the context of the situation.
Writing
*Students will complete the post-assessment for this genre
of writing next week.
*Their pre-assessment and process piece will be shared
during conferences.
*Our next genre of writing will be informational.
Reading
We continued to focus on inferring and using context clues
to figure out the meaning of unknown words.
Students seem to be loving the book, Zach’s Lie. I really enjoy how engaged students are
during my reading. This book requires
them to make so many inferences and forces a deeper level of thinking.
