Keenoy’s Pups News 3-19-18
Dear
Families,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful
week. The Keenoy family will be
traveling to Kansas City for Caleb’s first soccer league games on Sunday. It looks like it will be a bit chilly, but I
think that last weekend’s weather spoiled us a bit. Have a terrific week and thank you for all
that you do.

Pup of the Week-Bradley H.
Hello,
I’m Bradley H. and I am eleven years
old. I love sports and I’m a diver. I do competitions in April and have one in
St. Louis. I am very athletic and like
to flip. I can do them on the ground and
on the trampoline. My favorite flips are
back flips. I’m the best at those. In my free time, I am usually on the
trampoline or playing video games. If I
do anything outside, it usually includes my friends.
The
next Pup of the Week is Hattie H. Please bring any pictures or items that you
would like to put on our bulletin board that is located outside of our
classroom.
T-Shirt Design
Students
will be able to create and vote for a 5th Grade T-Shirt design. Once the design is selected, Diggit will be
able to recreate this print for students to buy a t-shirt. The due date for this design is March 16th.
Reading
I
really enjoy reading the book, A Long Way from Chicago to the class each
day. There are a lot of words for us to
consider because of the later time/setting.
Students really seem to be understanding main idea, cause/effect, and we
will continue working on Point of View next week.
Math
We
completed Topic 5 today and I am proud of our class progress with
fractions. We will test over this unit
on Monday and I plan on starting Topic 6 on Tuesday or Wednesday. Topic 6 focuses on investigating measurement
by using decimal multiplication and division.
Word Study
Student’s
spelling lists this week consisted of:
*Words
misspelled in their own writing
*Words
missed on their last spelling test
*Words
that had the suffix “ible” or “able”
We
tested over these words today. Thank you
for helping your child practice their words at home.
Science
Students
continue to learn about matter during our science unit. The first learning cycle explored the
definition of matter and brought about amazing conversations/thinking. Next week, students will learn about mass,
volume, and density in learning cycle 2.
Writing/Social
Studies-Invention Project
As
you know, students are thinking about an invention (between 1700-current) that
had the most impact on the world. The
process will take a couple of weeks and will look like this:
*Students
brainstorm a list of invention ideas after looking up information.
*Narrow
down their long list to 3 inventions.
*Research
information about the 3 inventions.
*Select
1 invention and create a brief argument about how the invention impacted the
world.
*Create
a group of 2-3 students/present and decide on one topic
*Create
an Imovie for that invention that is 60 seconds or less.
*After
spring break, 5th graders will watch the top videos and then will vote for
their favorite.
PK5K School Color Run
This
year, Paxton will host our annual school color run! This is an exciting program that will help
create awareness for healthy living, raise funds, and is sure to be a
blast. Register by April 13th
