Keenoy Pup’s News                                             4-20-18

Dear Families,

I hope that everyone had a terrific and healthy week.  Your child may have already shared, but I think that our dog Susie just won the Most Destructive Dog Award this week.  Susie just turned a year old so you would think that she would start growing out of her destructive ways!  Jessi and I decided to give her an opportunity to roam the house unsupervised for an hour or so.  Really Bad Idea!  She ripped up an entire section of carpeting in our living room.  I’ll include a picture in this week’s blog.  Luckily, we had already ordered new flooring the week prior to her living room adventure.  This newsletter will be kept mostly informational.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Pup of the Week-Sabrina H.

Hello, my name is Sabrina.😊  I have three cats, Salem, Mizuno, and Mookie.  My older sister, Miette is in 9th grade.  I am very excited to go to Middle School and enjoyed my time this year with my wonderful teacher, Mr. Keenoy.

The next Pup of the Week is Taylor B.  Please bring any pictures or items that you would like to put on our bulletin board that is located outside of our classroom.

Paxton 5th Grade T-Shirts
I've attached the T-Shirt (front) Design to the Newsletter
As you know, 5th grade students were given the opportunity to create their very own design for the annual 5th Grade Paxton T-Shirt.  The winning design (based on student voting) was sent to the local t-shirt company Diggit last week. Diggit created a computer image of the design for the front of the t-shirt.  The back of the t-shirt will include the name of each 5th grade teacher and student. These names will be organized by classroom.

THANK YOU so much Paxton PTA and families for creating opportunities for students to raise money for 5th Grade Graduation Fun!  The fundraisers this year allowed for PTA to purchase this shirt for each student and teacher in 5th grade.  Last week, students could try on sample t-shirts so that appropriate sizes would be selected.  These shirts will be ordered within the next week and will be ready for students to wear to our first field trip to Rock Bridge State Park on May 11th.  Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH PAXTON PTA!

Celebration
Our class reached the goal of 1,000 Keenoy Pup Cash last week.  Students decided that they would like to combine a few celebrations into one fun afternoon.  This sounded like a great idea to me and a nice way to also celebrate the completion of MAP testing.  We will plan on celebrating on Wednesday, April 25th.

The plan is to enjoy snacks, lunch, and a movie through lunch/recess time.  We decided on the movie Tuck Everlasting.  This is a PG rated Disney movie and I will send a permission form home today.  Later in the afternoon, I will give students the opportunity to play games.  This includes bringing in small electronic devices from home, if school appropriate games are being played.  I’m sure that I will also be persuaded to play a song or two so that we can have a few moments of dancing😊  I’ve loved this class and look forward to celebrating their terrific choices and hard work.  Thank you!

MAP Testing
The first week of testing went extremely well.  Thank you for avoiding scheduling conflicts during testing.  Although make up tests are allowed, it is helpful if they can be avoided.  We only have two more testing days to go!

Monday, April 23         8:30-10:30 (Math session 1)
Tuesday, April 24         10:15-11:50 (Math session 2 and 3)

MAP testing is taking up quite a bit of our morning time.  Once students have finished, I have given them some “down time” afterwards.  We’ve continued our writing work with argumentative essays.  I also started teaching Math Unit 7 (multiplication of mixed numbers and geometry) this week.  Other than some reading time after testing, that is pretty much what we have been able to accomplish this week.

Paxton Keeley Field Day
Our class is participating in Field Day on May 16 from 10:20 am to 12:00 pm.  Coach is asking for two parent volunteers from our class to help run the game station Hoop Squeeze.  Our class will begin field day with this station, so I will help you become familiar with the game.  Please send me an e-mail if you are available to volunteer.  Thanks for considering volunteering your time.
